Francisco de la Cruz (1938 – 2025)
Francisco "Paco" de la Cruz was an Argentine physicist renowned for his pioneering contributions to experimental low-temperature and condensed matter physics. His research focused on the phenomenology of high-temperature superconductors. Widely recognized in the scientific community, he authored more than 150 papers in international journals and delivered over 40 invited lectures around the world. Beyond his scientific achievements, he played a vital role in strengthening Argentine science through his leadership at CNEA, CONICET, SECyT, and various academic institutions. He collaborated extensively with research groups across Latin America, North America, Europe, and Israel, and received numerous honors throughout his career. A Fellow of both the American Physical Society and the Institute of Physics, a Foreign Member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, and a member of Argentina’s National Academies of Sciences, Prof. de la Cruz was also a founding member of the advisory board of Papers in Physics. His wisdom, generosity, and guidance will be missed.
