About the Journal
MISSION AND VISION:
Papers in Physics is a non-profit scientific journal dedicated to the publication of original research across a broad range of areas in physics and related disciplines.
Founded and operated by physicists, the journal aims to provide a fair, transparent, and intellectually rigorous publishing environment.
We are guided by the following core goals:
Building an international editorial platform from the Global South. We seek to strengthen the visibility and influence of physics research emerging from Latin America and other underrepresented regions, while remaining fully international in scope and standards, and independent of traditional physics associations.
Providing an affordable open-access alternative. We are committed to reducing financial barriers in scientific publishing by offering a sustainable and accessible open-access model for authors and readers worldwide.
Innovating in scientific publishing. We actively explore and implement new editorial practices, with particular emphasis on transparency, accountability, and recognition in peer review.
Operating as a non-profit initiative run by physicists for physicists. Our editorial decisions are guided solely by scientific quality and community values, not by commercial interests.
JOURNAL SCOPE:
The journal publishes original research articles in most areas of physics, including, but not limited to: physics of particles and fields, condensed matter, physics of fluids, chemical physics, statistical mechanics, soft condensed matter, materials science, biophysics, econophysics, mathematical physics and general physics, relativity and gravitation, and nuclear physics.
Submissions in the areas of foundations of physics, history of physics, and physics education are out of the scope. Manuscripts presenting 'unifying theories of the universe' or re-defining well-known relativity and gravitation theories without strong roots in the current literature on the field would be also automatically rejected.
All submissions are expected to contain substantial new results and ideas that advance the state of physics in a non-trivial way.
PEER REVIEW:
All manuscripts are strictly reviewed by specialists in the relevant area prior to publication with no exception. Acceptance is based on the originality, technical soundness, and significance of the work.
EDITORIAL TRACKS:
The journal offers two distinct peer-review models:
- Traditional Review: In this model, manuscripts are evaluated by anonymous referees, and editorial decisions are based on their reports.
- Open Review: In this model, manuscripts are evaluated by expert referees. If the paper is original and technically sound, the article, the reviewer's comments and criticism and the author's replies are published whenever the Editors consider the discussion valuable for the readers (each contribution with its corresponding DOI along with the names of all involved). This promotes open discussion and gives public credit to our reviewers and editors.
COPYLEFT POLICY AND PUBLICATION CHARGES:
Papers in Physics has a copyleft policy. All published articles are distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License , which permits use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, as well as the creation of derivative works for any purpose, provided that the original work is properly cited. All articles are made freely available to readers upon publication.
As a non-profit journal, Papers in Physics does not seek to generate profit. However, authors are required to pay a low publication charge to cover fixed operational and article processing costs. Further details are available in the Article Publication Charges section.
